Tarot Journal Template
Copy this free template: Date / Question / Cards and positions / What I can observe / First interpretation / Another possible reading / One action / Review date / What actually happened. Keeping observations separate from assumptions makes the later review more useful.
Tarot Journal Prompts
Use these twelve prompts to keep the entry specific and reviewable.
Before Your Tarot Reading
1. What decision is actually mine? 2. What do I know already? 3. What would a useful answer help me do? 4. What assumption am I bringing?
After Revealing Your Tarot Cards
5. Which image catches my attention, and why? 6. How does this card change in its position? 7. What is another plausible interpretation? 8. What evidence would challenge my first reading?
Revisiting a Saved Tarot Reading
9. What action did I take? 10. What happened differently from what I expected? 11. What did the reading fail to address? 12. What will I change next time?
Tarot Journal Entry and Follow-up Example
Date: Wednesday. Question: how can I restart my drawing practice this week? Cards and positions: Eight of Pentacles in next step, upright. What I can observe: I have time on Wednesday but keep waiting for a longer session. First interpretation: practice a small part rather than complete a finished picture. Another possible reading: simplify the exercise before adding time. One action: draw hands for ten minutes. Review date: next Wednesday. What actually happened: the exercise was too difficult, so I practiced simple shapes instead. Keep the original interpretation; do not rewrite it after the fact.
